Jack Alwin (Teacher) VIEW PROFILE

Lloyd John 'Jack' Alwin

Alwin, Lloyd John "Jack" Age 95, passed away August 20th, 2022. Survived by his wife Joyce of 71 years who was his teammate in all endeavors and his best friend. Children - Todd (Laure) Alwin, Baird (Lori) Alwin and Hans (Catherine) Alwin. Grandchildren - Johanna (Kellen) Burl, Emily Alwin, Kelsey (Tom) Bishop, Emma Alwin, Brett (Emily) Alwin, Hans Alwin (fiancée Rachael Grooms) and Natalie Alwin. Great-grandchildren Cora, Abby & James Bishop, Acacia & Sequoia Burl. Brother - Mike (Deb) Alwin. Born and raised in South Minneapolis, graduated from Washburn High School. After a brief stint in the Navy, he graduated from Hamline University with a degree in Education. He taught English at St. Louis Park High School for 30 plus years while directing class plays, assisting with musicals, directing numerous choirs, and performing as a soloist and in small groups. The family's favorite place to spend summers was a cabin built by Jack at Palmer Lake. Always a teacher, two of his life highlights were taking groups of high school kids on backpacking trips to the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming every summer in the 70's and running survival camping trips in MN during interim programs at the high school. He felt the kids learned more about themselves in these precarious situations then in the classroom. Jack knew and touched the lives of an immeasurable number of people, somehow he seemed to remember them all and we believe they all remember Jack. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd - August 31, 2022 from 4:30 to 7:30 with program at 5:00. In Lieu of flowers: Memorials to St. Louis Park Schools and Community Foundation, PO Box 16367, St. Louis Park, MN 55416, or National Audubon Society.

I'm so sad to know "Mr. Alwin" passed away, and also grateful to know he continued to live a fulfilling, happy, altruist, productive life many decades after he was my favorite teacher in the early '60s.

Even as a young 10th grader, I knew he was a very special, evolved person besides being a fabulous English teacher. What I remember most is he always referred to his wife as his "partner in life."

Thank you Mr. Alwin for a life-time lesson!

May Jack Alwin Rest In Peace and may his family and dear ones be of comfort to one another.

I saw Mr. Alwin's obit in this week's Star Trib. I remember him as one of the nicest, most generous and best teachers I ever had.  I am glad that he had such a wonderful family and happy, long life. He certainly deserved it after all he did for us! God bless him and his family.
