Dwight James O'Bert

passed away peacefully on Monday February 4th, 2019 at the age of 74. Preceded in death by his mother Ruth (Applequist) O'Bert, and father James O'Bert. He is survived by his children Brent (Sherri, Andrew, & Hunter), Todd (Christine, Jonah, Miriam, and Solomon), Chad (Rachel and Abby), and long term companion Judee Childs. Dwight was born in St. Louis Park on June 6th, 1944. He was named in honor of Dwight Eisenhower, as a tribute to D-Day. He graduated from St. Louis Park High School and Attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He worked for St. Louis Park Public schools before purchasing the Country Kitchen of Excelsior in 1976. He spent the next 10 years in the restaurant business, before getting into real estate, residential construction and eventually owning a business that transported and delivered packages for FedEx. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his enthusiasm and willingness to try new ventures. He was often quoted of saying. "The harder you work the luckier you get." And although sometimes he got knocked down, he was never out. Dwight's ability to rebound was very impressive. He was an avid car enthusiast and longtime member of the NSRA, MSRA, and Ambler's Car Club. He restored many memorable cars over the years, including a 1928 Ford Model A, 1932 Ford Deuce Coup, and 1933 Rockne Studebaker. Even though he owned several Fords he truly loved his Corvettes and was a MOPAR man through and through. Dwight's legacy is his sense of humor and his ability to see the bright side in everything. Some would say he was grandiose. He preferred "optimistic" A memorial service will be held this June in Minneapolis. Details will be posted on Social Media.
