Margrethe Brown (Teacher)

Margrethe Dixen (Frederiksen) Brown

Brown, Margrethe Dixen Frederiksen age 98, of St. Louis Park passed away August 8. She was a loving wife, mother and grand- mother. We will miss her wit, wisdom, and steady strength. Born June 11, 1918, in Askov, MN, a Danish American community, she grew up speaking Danish as her first language. She was proud of her Danish heritage and her fluency in the language. She met Robert Brown at the U of M where she received a BS in education. After they married in 1943, they lived in SE Minneapolis and Columbia Heights until 1950 when they built a house in St Louis Park. To her great joy, the family built a cabin on Big Marine Lake in 1970 where she spent as much time as possible. She was an active member of St Peder's Lutheran Church, Virkelyst Society and other Danish heritage groups. She was a full-time substitute teacher in St. Louis Park schools. She was preceded in death by parents Christian and Thora Frederiksen, husband Robert, son Paul, brothers Arild, Gunnar, Folmer, infant siblings Arnie and Anna, and grandson Jason. She is survived by brothers Eiler (Heidi) and Harald (Mary); son Rolf (Sonja), daughters Linnea, Karla and Grete (John); grandchildren Theresa, Kelsey, Megan, Elijah, Josiah, Aric, Robert, and Andrea; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many dear friends.
