Ron and I were very close friends. Thirty years ago, Dave Roston and I were standing outside the mortuary when we turned and saw the pallbearers placing Ron's coffin into the hearse. "There goes the Buffalo," David said quietly. That moment had a tremendous impact on me as I stood there, truly feeling my own mortality for the first time.
I met Ron in third grade at Fern Hill. Because he was quiet and shy, a lot of people didn't know him well. He had a dry and witty sense of humor and was very bright. He was also a very good basketball player and ball handler. He could dribble circles around a lot of players, but he never wanted to play competitively. He became an excellent lawyer. His death in 1981 was a real tragedy.
